Our Environmental Policy

Norfolk Oak will only buy wood from truly sustainable sources. Most sellers will claim that their wood is from sustainable sources, but in reality many have no idea, nor do they care. For us it is not just a throw away sales line. Sustainability and proper environmental practices are really important to us and we have a personal commitment to provide wood products made from sustainable and ecologically sound sources. Last year 197,000 acres of new hardwood forest was planted in North America - around four million trees. That's more than double the number felled for lumber; an outstanding example of positive environmental practice.

It’s about getting the message out that the African tropical wood trade, with woods such as Iroko and Wenge, is destroying rainforests and aiding the arms trade in Africa. Because it matters to us, and will matter even more to our children.

Whether it’s American White Oak from the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and Virginia, Black American Walnut from Wisconsin, or Maple from the windswept Pacific coast, only the best and most beautiful timber makes it into our workshop. Whichever product you choose, rest assured that you are buying the best there is. Because it’s not just about the money. It’s about providing our customers with a fantastic product sustainably sourced.
